Upcountry Living Market

November 2, 2015 · 2 Comments

Good Monday morning!

I wanted to share a little bit with you today about Upcountry Living Market.

I started Upcountry Living Market via Instagram in September and it has been a blast! I am so grateful for all of you that have purchased items from one or more of the “Insta Markets”.

In order to bring you a well curated sale of vintage goods I decided to switch gears and do a larger two-day sale that is coming up this week. It will be this Thursday evening, November 5th, 6pm – 9pm and Friday, November 6th, 10am – 2pm eastern standard time.  I invite you to grab some wine or coffee and make it a fun time with your girl friends. Shopping is always more fun with friends! I want you to enjoy shopping the Upcountry Living Market and I will work every time to make each sale better than the last!

My goal is not to run around and gather whatever I can to make a dollar. NO! I search for things I would love and enjoy in my own home and that I find value in and hope you will as well.

You have no idea how many years I have spent in antique stores and flea markets! I love it and I am thankful to have finally found a way to turn a hobby into a business.  It is a dream come true.  I have so many things planned and in the pipeline for the future and growth of Upcountry Living as a brand.  The sales are so fun and I would love for you to share the @UpcountryLivingMarket  instagram page with your friends and family.

This sale will include black and white sketches,  pottery, brass, linen napkins, blue & white, lamps and so much more!  Can.Not.Wait.

Thank You for coming along with me on this journey.

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE : WEEK FOUR

April 23, 2015 · 2 Comments

I can not believe that we are already on week four of the One Room Challenge!

To catch up you can take a look back to week one, week two and week three.

This week I feel like we got a lot done.

The wood is up, bookcases are installed and everything is painted.

Everything is painted in Benjamin Moore-Simply White.

This picture below is where I am trying out a lighter grout color.  It is a little to white I think.  What do you think?

Started adding books and playing around with styling the shelves.

All of the photos were taken quickly with my phone while working. Better photos to come 😉

Master Bedroom Design (maybe)

September 24, 2014 · Leave a Comment

I can not believe I did this!

I have been having so much fun playing around with making design boards.

So I thought if this helps other people…maybe…it can help me!

If you were to purchase the exact items in the design board it would be WAY more than I am willing to spend.

My goal was to use a lot of similar items I already have on hand. I kept this in mind while “shopping” around.

Going with an “Americana Modern Country” look.  That’s just what I was thinking in my head.

Similar items I have:

Antique mahogany chest ( christmas present from my husband years ago), yellow lamp, blue and white lamp, art, frames, bamboo mirror, green bench (mine is black, but can be painted), plaid throw, baskets, Navy blue fabric to make the solid pillows, white Ikea curtains and rod.

What I don’t have:

Brass chandelier (I Love this one and will be keeping my eye out). Antique Pine Chest – has been on my list for years, rug, some decorative pillows, blue stool and antlers.

To discuss the bed situation… I currently have a four-poster pineapple bed with a dark cherry finish.  It was my husbands parents and as far as he is concerned it is the only bed we will ever own. I like it, but I have had it for 15 years. I would love to change it to what you see in the picture.

Have you seen the new Better Homes and Garden upholstered headboard line through Wal-Mart?  One very similar to the design is only $149.00 for a queen! They are beautiful.

I hope to plank the walls and paint them a very light color so it does not get to dark.

I would use the darker chest until I purchased a pine piece, but I really like either one. It’s possible to use them both but that depends on a lot of factors.

I should have added that I have dark hardwood floors.

I would love to hear what you think.

Now to see what I can do to make this happen!

I’ll keep you posted!

Fall Wreath

September 18, 2014 · 1 Comment

Wreath making and floral arranging has been a long time hobby.   My goal is for them to look as real as possible.

This Natural Fall Wreath will look great hanging anywhere inside your home or on your front door.

I am really excited to share how easy it is to make and cost less than ten dollars!

First you will want to gather some items from your yard. Then you may need to purchase some greenery, moss, burlap ribbon, small pumpkin and whatever you like from a craft store. Be creative and use what appeals to you and your taste.  You will also need a glue gun.

Now your ready.

I gathered four branches from my yard.  You will want these to be as straight as possible.  Mine was about 1.5 inches in diameter.  You could go bigger.

Glue the four corners together… anyway you can.

Now add moss to cover all corners and up the sides.

Start adding greenery by glueing it in piece by piece.   I placed the pumpkin last.

I also added burlap ribbon to the back that I had on hand.

Once everything was glued in place I went back and added moss over places to hide glue and to give it another layer of depth.

Mine is hanging by my back door! If you make one follow @upcountryliving on Instagram and use #upcountryliving to share it with me.

P.S.- I have plans to improve my photography skills.

Thanks for reading,

Joy

Friends Entry

September 1, 2014 · 7 Comments

porch

Welcome friends!

Thank you for reading my first decorating blog post!

I am starting it off  by sharing our favorite room in the house, our covered porch.  This is where all of our friends and family enter our home.

We  know if someone rings the door bell they don’t visit us often.  When we hear the iron clank of the knocker we know we have company.

They enter this gate on the side of the garage.

Which leads to our favorite spot, our covered porch.

My mother and father-in-law build this home in 1968.  We purchased it 11 years ago.  My father-in-law and a few friends added this porch on many years ago.  We love the cedar ceiling and beams! They did a great job.

porch

This fern fabric is one of my all time favorites.  I plan to add some warmth for the cooler months.

I found that stump just as you see it! Amazing and free!

We love this extra living space.

Always search your yard for color and texture.  Adding  natural elements makes your home feel comfortable and inviting.

My son painted this bird house many years ago. I love having personal items mixed into my decor.

porch

I cook out here all year-long and having this cook station has worked perfectly.  porch cook station

The  plan for adding in fall flowers is on hold until it gets cooler here in the south.  But until then I used some branches from the yard and herb garden to keep it lively.  For now rosemary,  mint and branch cuttings work perfectly.  It is really what I use most of the time.

porch bench

This bench came from my husbands grandparents home.  It sat on their front porch for as long as he could remember.  I sanded it a bit and sat it here temporally, but it has been so functional here I decided to leave it for a while.

Thank you for visiting my blog.  I look forward to this new journey.
