Balsam Mountain Preserve

October 11, 2017 · Leave a Comment

One thing I love about living in the Carolinas is the access to the Mountains and the Marsh! It is so wonderful to live in an area that you could have breakfast in the Mountains and be enjoying lunch by the coast, all in the same day. I have grown up loving both but I know most people love one more than the other. If you favor the mountain life today’s post is for you.

I want to introduce you to Balsam Mountain Preserve.

In August my sister, Sonya and I were invited up to
Balsam Mountain Preserve in North Carolina to tour and experience their private mountain community.  We were on location to eat, sleep and enjoy what they have to offer to their residence and today I am here to share it with you!

After a short drive from Greenville, South Carolina we arrived to Balsam Mountain Preserve, located in Sylva, North Carolina. We were immediately transported to a dream! From the moment we started up the mountain we were immediately relaxed and felt at home. We stayed in one of the member cabins. This was our cabin pictured below. Beautiful and Comfortable, two of my favorite things.

The cabins are nestled on a gravel road across from the Boarding House Restaurant where we enjoyed breakfast, lunch, dinner and wine.  The food and service was AMAZING!

We also took a tour of one of the homes for sale and I shared that live with you on Instagram. If you are interested in homes for sale or to learn more about the properties you can click here for more information.

Do you see that sky? It was incredible from everywhere!

The mountain also features a beautiful Arnold Palmer designed golf course that has the most a amazing views.

Balsam Mountain is also very proud of what the are really about, Balsam Mountain Trust. This is how they describe it.

With a history rich in preservation and built on a commitment to the land, Balsam Mountain Preserve is just that — a preserve. And at its heart is the Balsam Mountain Trust , a nationally-recognized, non-profit organization that has emerged as a leader in education, research and conservation leadership.

The mission of Balsam Mountain Trust is to inspire people to be responsible stewards of the natural and cultural resources of the southern Blue Ridge Mountains. The Trust gives residents a front-row seat to the sights, sounds and enriching experiences that Balsam’s 3,200 acre preserve and wildlife conservation offers.

I think my biggest take away from the visit was the people! They were so warm and welcoming and treated us like we were residence. I truly believe that is what makes a great community. If you are looking for a mountain retreat for permanent living or for a weekend retreat I highly recommend taking a further look at what Balsam Mountain Preserve has to offer.

Have a great day and thank you for reading,

Joy

Fall Wreaths

August 24, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Just added some beautiful fall wreaths to the online store!

The quality of these wreaths is amazing and they all look very real and your guest will never know the different.

The boxwood feels and smells real!

The boxwood wreaths are preserved wreaths. That means that it is real and has been put through a process to make it last for a few years! They can be lightly misted with water if you feel it becomes a little dry. I have one of these and it is going on two years and I have not had to do that yet. You will want to keep out of direct sunlight. I would only use this one out side if you never get sun to that area.

shop here

The dried eucalyptus wreath are made by hand from real trees and plants that have been dried.

How beautiful are these for fall? LOVE!

Shop all fall wreaths here

Thanks for stopping by if you have any questions please let me know.

I started Upcountry Living Market via Instagram in September and it has been a blast! I am so grateful for all of you that have purchased items from one or more of the “Insta Markets”.

In order to bring you a well curated sale of vintage goods I decided to switch gears and do a larger two-day sale that is coming up this week. It will be this Thursday evening, November 5th, 6pm – 9pm and Friday, November 6th, 10am – 2pm eastern standard time.  I invite you to grab some wine or coffee and make it a fun time with your girl friends. Shopping is always more fun with friends! I want you to enjoy shopping the Upcountry Living Market and I will work every time to make each sale better than the last!

image

image

My goal is not to run around and gather whatever I can to make a dollar. NO! I search for things I would love and enjoy in my own home and that I find value in and hope you will as well.

You have no idea how many years I have spent in antique stores and flea markets! I love it and I am thankful to have finally found a way to turn a hobby into a business.  It is a dream come true.  I have so many things planned and in the pipeline for the future and growth of Upcountry Living as a brand.  The sales are so fun and I would love for you to share the @UpcountryLivingMarket  instagram page with your friends and family.

This sale will include black and white sketches,  pottery, brass, linen napkins, blue & white, lamps and so much more!  Can.Not.Wait.

Thank You for coming along with me on this journey.

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE : THE REVEAL!!

May 7, 2015 · 21 Comments

It is time for the reveal of my One Room Challenge!

ORC-LP-Blue-250x183

To see the before you can look back to Week One, Week Two, Week Three, Week Four and Week Five.

I am super excited to have this room finished for my family.  We LOVE it!

It looks even better in person!  I can’t believe I waited so long to do this!

I hope you enjoy seeing our new space.

One Room Challenge Living Room Makeover Reveal

Remember the Before…

Adding the wood planks to the sides of the mantel changed the entire feel of this room.  Before it was dominated by the brick and it sucked up every ounce of light that came in.

All of the trim, walls and bookcases are painted BM Simply White in semi-gloss.

The art came from my husbands grandparents house and his great aunt painted it. The large basket also came from the great aunt.

Living Room Makeover

My son has a collection of wooden boats and my father in law gave him this one for his birthday last year. It is really big and trying to find a place for it has been a challenge. This worked out great!

In the end I ended up using orange fabric.  I was shocked at how much I loved it.  I normally would never choose this color.

After the planks were installed I knew they need something. I found these simple candle sconce and added the black and white stripe candles for a fun twist. I love them!

One of the things I am really excited about is the fact that there are so many items in this room that have special family meaning. Those silhouettes are my husbands grandparents. The ones in the bookcase are my father in law and my husband. The blue candy dish above was a mother’s day gift from my son a few years ago. Because he knows I love blue and vintage things.
